Raised Basement

September 7th, 2006 – 2:41 am

Example Raised Basement PhotosThis is a set of a couple of hundred pictures or so of New Orleans Raised Basement Homes.

We plan to build higher, safer, stronger, smarter - think parking and storage underneath. At first it sounds awkward to some people. But, New Orleans has many thousands of examples of raised basement homes all over town in a wide variety of architectural styles. Some are beautiful and some are not. I hope these pictures help a few families decide what they like and don’t like and hopefully encourage some families to choose to build a home respectful of some of the beautiful New Orleans architecture from our past.

Personally, I’d like my raised basement’s slab above BFE so as to keep my storage and parking dry. And, we intend to put our front staircase inside. We might get an elevator installed during our new construction rather than after the stroke or diabeties when its going to end up looking like an afterthought.Consider that many of these grand outside staircase designs won’t fit within setbacks required in some of our neighborhoods.
